Researcher

Athanasios Deligiannis is a political scientist and information technologist, currently a researcher at the International Hellenic University working on the nexus of open government, open innovation and open public services. He is also a researcher with the Independent Reporting Mechanism of the Open Government Partnership, evaluating open government initiatives that are part of Greece’s national OGP action plans.

He has consulted for Expertise France, identifying weaknesses and priorities of open government implementation in Greece as well as analyzing global open government best practices to be adapted to the Greek setting.

Athanasios was responsible for e-Justice initiatives as a member of the first Greek e-government team at the PM’s Office. He was also the coordinator for the Open Hardware and Open Education Group at the Open Technologies Alliance, an NGO created by Greek Universities. His work there included designing programmes for the production and dissemination of open educational resources, coordinating the One Laptop Per Child pilot in Greek schools, designing the OpenLabs/EduLabs platform for creating school IT labs based on open hardware and software, and co-designing and co-managing the Code + Create project that aimed at providing refugees with IT instruction based on open educational resources.
